Class
Game terms · intermediate
A Class is an enchantment subtype that starts at level 1 and gains more abilities as you pay to raise its level.
How it works
- A Class card has a striated text box containing two class level bars, a vertical illustration on the left, and its type line along the bottom. [716.1]
- A class level bar is a keyword ability that represents both an activated ability and a static ability. The bar carries the activation cost and the level number; any ability printed in the same text box section is part of its static ability. [716.2]
- Any ability printed on a Class that is not preceded by a class level bar works normally and is always on, so the top section applies from the moment the Class enters. [716.3]
Rules notes
- The activated half of a level bar is what raises the Class's level; the static half is what the new level gives you.
- Class levels are not level counters. Older leveler creature cards use level counters, and the two systems do not interact in either direction. [716.4]
- Because the level bar's activated ability is an ordinary activated ability, it can be responded to, and the level only changes once it resolves.
