End step
Game terms · beginner
The end step is the last point in a turn where anybody can act. It is where "at the beginning of the end step" triggers go on the stack.
How it works
- The end step has no turn-based actions. Once it begins, the active player gets priority. [513.1]
Rules notes
- The step does not "back up." A permanent whose ability triggers "at the beginning of the end step" that enters during this step won't trigger until the next turn's end step, and the same is true of a delayed trigger created during the step. [513.2]
- That rule is about triggered abilities only. Continuous effects that last "until end of turn" or "this turn" are unaffected by it; they wear off later, in the cleanup step. [513.2]
- The end step is the usual window for instant-speed effects you held all turn, because anything you spend here was never needed earlier.
- The cleanup step follows, where the active player discards down to maximum hand size and damage is removed. Players normally get no priority there.
