Emblem
Game terms · beginner
An emblem is an ability with nowhere to live, parked in the command zone. Nothing in the game can remove it.
How it works
- An emblem is a marker representing an object that has one or more abilities but usually no other characteristics. [114.1]
- "[Player] gets an emblem with [ability]" means that player puts an emblem with that ability into the command zone, owned and controlled by them. [114.2]
- An emblem's abilities function from the command zone. [114.4]
Rules notes
- An emblem has no characteristics beyond its abilities: no types, no mana cost, no color, and usually no name. [114.3]
- An emblem is neither a card nor a permanent, and "emblem" is not a card type. [114.5] Destroy, exile, sacrifice and bounce effects have nothing to work with.
- Because emblems are not permanents, effects that count or copy permanents never see them.
