Vehicle
Game terms · beginner
A Vehicle is an artifact subtype that is not a creature until somebody crews it.
How it works
- Most Vehicles have a crew ability, which turns them into artifact creatures. [301.7]
- A Vehicle has a printed power and toughness, but it only has those characteristics while it is also a creature. [301.7a]
- When a Vehicle becomes a creature it immediately has its printed power and toughness, which other effects may then modify or overwrite. [301.7b]
Rules notes
- An uncrewed Vehicle is an ordinary noncreature artifact: it is not affected by creature removal, it can't attack or block, and effects that count creatures don't count it.
- Crewing taps the creatures paying for it, so those creatures are not available to attack or block themselves.
- Because the Vehicle is the attacker, abilities that care about the crewing creatures' own combat do not apply.
