Airbend
Keywords · intermediate
Airbend exiles one or more permanents or spells. While an object stays exiled this way, its owner may cast it for {2} instead of its mana cost.
How it works
- To airbend an object, the player instructed to do so exiles it.
- For each card exiled this way, its owner (not necessarily the airbending player) may cast it for {2} rather than its mana cost, for as long as it remains exiled.
- An ability that triggers "whenever a player airbends" triggers when that player exiles the object or objects as instructed.
Rules notes
- The recast right belongs to the object's owner, not to whoever airbent it. If you airbend an opponent's permanent, your opponent is the one who gets to recast it for {2} — you have removed it from the battlefield, but you have also handed them a cheap way back in.
- Airbend only exiles; it does not destroy, and there is no guarantee the card stays exiled forever unless nothing else moves it.
- Compare with the other Avatar bending mechanics printed alongside it, firebending and waterbend, which are separate keyword actions with their own effects not covered here.
