Assemble
Keywords · advanced
Assemble puts the top card of your Contraption deck face up onto one of your sprockets, the Unstable keyword action for getting Contraptions onto the battlefield.
How it works
- To assemble a Contraption, put the top card of your Contraption deck face up onto one of your sprockets. That's the whole action, every time it's used.
- Cards trigger it different ways: as an enters-the-battlefield ability, as an activated ability (often paid partly by sacrificing another artifact), or as part of a spell that assembles several Contraptions at once by sacrificing that many as an additional cost.
- One card changes the action itself: if a Rigger you control would assemble a Contraption, it assembles two Contraptions instead.
Rules notes
- Rule 701.45a is explicit that Unstable cards and mechanics aren't covered by the Comprehensive Rules; assemble is defined there only to point you to the Unstable FAQ for the real rulings.
- Outside the silver-bordered set, only one black-bordered card (from Future Sight) even mentions assembling a Contraption, and its ability does nothing unless you're also playing with a Contraption deck.
