Augment
Keywords · advanced
Augment is a special action: pay a cost, reveal the card from your hand, and combine it with target host, normally only as a sorcery.
How it works
- Augment [cost] means: pay the cost, reveal this card from your hand, and combine it with target host.
- Combining attaches the augment card's printed ability — the line above the augment reminder text, like "Whenever you're dealt damage," or "At the beginning of your upkeep," — onto the host.
- Augmenting is sorcery-speed only by default. Some cards override that: Ninja can have its augment ability activated any time you could cast an instant.
Rules notes
- Because augmenting checks "only as a sorcery" by default, you can't combine an augment card during combat or on an opponent's turn unless the card explicitly says otherwise.
- Augment is an Unstable (2017) mechanic printed on acorn-stamped cards. It is not legal in tournament-sanctioned constructed or Commander formats.
