Cleave
Keywords · intermediate
Cleave is an alternative cost that changes a spell's text. It reads "Cleave [cost]."
How it works
- A spell with cleave has some words printed in square brackets.
- If you cast it for its cleave cost, you remove the bracketed words from its text, usually turning a narrow spell into a broader one.
- Cast normally, the bracketed words stay and the spell is more limited.
Rules notes
- Cleave is an alternative cost; the spell's mana value is its printed mana cost regardless of how it was cast.
- A cleaved spell can lose targeting restrictions or gain a wider effect, depending on what the brackets contained.
