Cohort
Keywords · beginner
Cohort is an ability word. It has no rules meaning of its own; it marks Ally creatures with an activated ability that costs tapping another untapped Ally.
How it works
- A cohort ability's cost is {T} plus tapping an untapped Ally you control, in addition to any other listed cost.
- The tapped Ally must be a different permanent from the creature with cohort — its own {T} symbol already taps that creature as part of the same activation.
- The effect varies by card: a stat boost for your creatures, life gain, tapping a target creature, digging for an Equipment card, or creating a token.
Rules notes
- Cohort isn't a keyword ability, so there's no independent rule beyond 207.2c — the printed cost and effect on each card is what actually applies.
- You need a second, untapped Ally on the battlefield to activate a cohort ability at all.
