Companion
Keywords · advanced
Companion lets a card start outside your deck and join your hand mid-game, if your deck obeys a rule. It reads "Companion - [deckbuilding condition]."
How it works
- Before the game, you may designate one card with companion as your companion if your main deck meets its listed deckbuilding condition.
- Once during the game, you may pay {3} as a special action to put your companion from outside the game into your hand. After that, it is a normal card.
Rules notes
- The companion's condition must be met by your starting deck, not your in-game board.
- In Commander, a companion begins the game in the command zone rather than outside the game.
- Companion's deckbuilding restriction is strict, so building around one shapes the whole deck.
