Convoke

Keywords · beginner

Convoke lets your creatures help pay for a spell. As you cast a spell with convoke, you may tap any number of untapped creatures you control.

How it works

• Each creature you tap for convoke pays for {1} or for one mana of that creature's color.
• This lets you cast expensive spells earlier by tapping a wide board instead of spending mana.

Rules notes

• Tapping a creature for convoke is not a cost that the creature's own abilities care about, but the creature does become tapped.
• Convoke does not change the spell's mana value; it only changes how the cost is paid.
• Creatures tapped for convoke can be summoning-sick; convoke does not require haste.
