Cumulative Upkeep
Keywords · intermediate
Cumulative upkeep is an escalating cost to keep a permanent. It reads "Cumulative upkeep [cost]."
How it works
- At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on the permanent.
- Then pay its cumulative upkeep cost once for each age counter on it.
- If you do not pay, sacrifice the permanent.
Rules notes
- The cost grows every turn: one payment the first upkeep, two the next, three after that, and so on.
- Cumulative upkeep makes a permanent very strong early but unsustainable if kept too long.
