Cycling
Keywords · beginner
You may pay the cycling cost and discard this card to draw a card.
How it works
- Cycling is an activated ability of the card in your hand. You can do it any time you'd cast an instant.
- Cycling does not put the spell on the stack -- it's a special action.
- Cycling triggers ("when you cycle a card, ...") still trigger.
- Most cycling costs are 1 or 2 mana; the cheaper, the more it acts as deck thinning.
Variants
- Typecycling: Plainscycling, Mountaincycling, etc. Discard for a basic land of that type instead of drawing a card.
- Wizardcycling, Slivercycling, etc. Discard to fetch a creature of that type.
Common interactions
- Astral Drift / Astral Slide / Astral Cornucopia: build entire deck strategies around cycling triggers.
- Discard outlets: cycling provides discard for Lurrus, Madness, escape, etc.
- Fluctuator: makes all your cycling cost 0.
