To detain a permanent is to lock it down until your next turn.

How it works

• A detained permanent can't attack or block, and its activated abilities can't be activated, until your next turn.
• After that, the restriction simply ends.

Rules notes

• Detain is temporary, soft removal. The permanent stays on the battlefield; it just cannot act for a turn cycle.
• Detain does not stop triggered abilities or static abilities, only attacking, blocking, and activated abilities.
