Disappear
Keywords · intermediate
Disappear is an ability word. It has no rules meaning of its own (CR 207.2c) — it groups abilities that check whether a permanent you controlled left the battlefield earlier in the turn.
How it works
- Every disappear ability shares the same condition: "if a permanent left the battlefield under your control this turn."
- Most disappear creatures check that condition at the beginning of your end step and, if it's true, create a token, put a +1/+1 counter on something, or scry.
- One checks the same condition as it enters the battlefield instead of waiting for the end step.
Rules notes
- The trigger doesn't require the disappear source itself to be the permanent that left — any permanent you controlled leaving the battlefield satisfies it.
- End-step versions look back over the whole turn so far, not just what happened immediately before the trigger.
- The enters-the-battlefield version needs a permanent to have already left earlier that turn for its bonus to fire, since it checks the condition on arrival.
