Discard
Keywords · beginner
To discard a card means to move it from a player's hand to their graveyard.
How it works
- A discard can be a cost (such as the cost of an ability), an effect (a spell that makes a player discard), or part of cleanup if a player has more than seven cards at end of turn.
Rules notes
- Discarding is not the same as milling (library to graveyard) or sacrificing (battlefield to graveyard). Each is a distinct keyword action.
- Madness and similar abilities care specifically about a card being discarded.
- When a player must discard but chooses which cards, the discarding player makes that choice unless the effect says otherwise.
