Draft from a Spellbook
Keywords · advanced
Drafting from a spellbook is digital-only: it appears on MTG Arena / Alchemy cards and does not appear in paper Magic.
How it works
- Cards with this ability trigger "draft a card from [this card]'s spellbook" off some condition, such as the card dying, being sacrificed, or a land entering the battlefield under your control.
- The spellbook is a pool of cards tied specifically to that printed card by name; different cards each have their own spellbook.
- Break Expectations specifies its drafted card is revealed ("that player drafts a card from Break Expectations's spellbook and reveals it"), which implies a drafted card isn't shown to opponents by default.
Rules notes
- The oracle text here doesn't state which zone a drafted card lands in or how many options you see when you draft, only that you "draft a card from [source]'s spellbook."
