Heist
Keywords · intermediate
Heist is digital-only: it appears on MTG Arena / Alchemy cards and does not appear in paper Magic.
How it works
- Heist reads "heist target opponent's library," the printed effect that appears on every card with this ability.
- Cards with heist commonly also carry a second ability that triggers "whenever you cast a spell you don't own," which lines up with a card gained through heist staying owned by the opponent even while you're the one casting it.
- Some heist effects change the scale: Triumphant Getaway heists "target opponent's library twice," and Grenzo, Crooked Jailer lets you pay {0} instead of the mana cost once each turn for a spell you cast that you don't own with mana value 3 or less.
Rules notes
- The reminder text doesn't spell out exactly what leaves the targeted library or where it goes; "heist target opponent's library" is the full extent of what's confirmed on these cards.
- "Whenever you cast a spell you don't own" is a distinct trigger condition from a normal cast trigger. It only fires when you cast a card that isn't yours, not on every spell you cast.
