Hexproof
Keywords · beginner
A permanent or player with hexproof can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.
How it works
- Hexproof only stops targeting. Effects that don't target (e.g. "destroy all creatures") still work.
- Hexproof doesn't stop your own spells from targeting the creature -- you can still equip your auras to a hexproof creature you control.
- "Hexproof from [color/type]" is a more limited version that only stops targeting from sources of that quality.
Common interactions
- Wraths and edicts ignore hexproof completely. Wrath of God and Liliana's Triumph don't target.
- Damage from your own creatures still works -- attacking a hexproof creature is fine, since combat damage isn't a target.
- Ward is the modern, better-balanced cousin of hexproof. See the Ward keyword entry.
- Shroud is a stricter cousin (even the controller can't target). See the Shroud entry.
