Kicker
Keywords · beginner
Kicker is an optional extra cost. A spell with kicker can be cast for its normal cost, or for that cost plus the kicker cost to get an added effect.
How it works
- You choose whether to pay the kicker cost as you cast the spell. The choice is locked in at that point.
- If the spell was kicked, its rules text grants the bonus effect when it resolves.
- The kicker cost can be mana or, on some cards, another cost such as paying life.
Rules notes
- A kicked spell still has the same mana value; kicker costs do not change mana value.
- Counters and copies see the spell as it was cast, including whether it was kicked.
- See also multikicker, a version of kicker that can be paid more than once.
