Landwalk
Keywords · beginner
Landwalk is a family of evasion abilities tied to land types: plainswalk, islandwalk, swampwalk, mountainwalk, forestwalk, and desertwalk. A creature with landwalk can't be blocked as long as the defending player controls a land of the matching type.
How it works
- Islandwalk means "can't be blocked as long as the defending player controls an Island," and the others work the same way for their land types.
- The land type is what matters, not the land's name. Any land with the Island subtype enables islandwalk against its controller, including dual lands and Wastes-style lands that happen to have that type.
Variants
Landwalk is written as "[type]walk," where [type] is usually a land type but can also be the card type land plus any combination of land types, card types, and supertypes. That produces several less common forms:
- Nonbasic landwalk: unblockable as long as the defender controls a land without the basic supertype.
- Legendary landwalk: unblockable as long as the defender controls a legendary land.
- Desertwalk: keys off the Desert land type.
- Compound forms such as "artifact landwalk" and "snow swampwalk" require the land to match every listed type or supertype.
Rules notes
- Landwalk is checked per defending player. A creature with islandwalk is unblockable against a player with an Island but blockable normally against a player without one.
- If the defending player's lands lose or change their types, landwalk can turn on or off mid-combat.
- Landwalk abilities don't cancel one another out. Giving your opponent's blockers islandwalk does nothing to stop your own islandwalker.
- Multiple instances of the same kind of landwalk on one creature are redundant.
