Magecraft

Keywords · beginner

Magecraft is an ability word. A permanent with magecraft triggers whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell.

How it works

• Magecraft abilities read "Whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell, [effect]."
• Both casting an instant or sorcery and creating a copy of one set off the trigger.

Rules notes

• Magecraft is notable for triggering on copies, which most "whenever you cast" abilities do not.
• Activated and triggered abilities are not spells, so they do not trigger magecraft.
