Prototype lets an artifact creature be cast as a smaller, cheaper version. It reads "Prototype [cost] - [P/T]."

How it works

• A card with prototype can be cast normally, or cast for its prototype cost.
• When cast as a prototype, it has the prototype cost's color and mana value and the smaller power and toughness listed.
• Cast normally, it uses its printed cost and stats.

Rules notes

• The chosen mode sets the card's color, mana value, and stats in every zone after that, including for color identity.
• Prototype gives one card two roles: an early cheap body or a later large one.
