Solved
Keywords · intermediate
Solved is a keyword on Case enchantments that gates an ability behind the Case actually being solved.
How it works
- A Case card lists a "to solve" condition. That condition is a triggered ability meaning "at the beginning of your end step, if the condition is met and this Case is not solved, it becomes solved."
- The check happens only at the beginning of your end step. Meeting the condition earlier in the turn does nothing until that trigger; if the condition has stopped being true by then, the Case stays unsolved.
- Once a Case becomes solved it stays solved until it leaves the battlefield, even if the condition later stops being true.
- The ability written after "Solved —" only functions while the Case is solved. Depending on its wording, that ability is a static ability, a triggered ability, or an activated ability.
- A static "Solved —" ability applies only as long as the Case stays solved; a triggered one only triggers while solved; an activated one can only be activated while solved.
Rules notes
- Many Cases also carry a separate, unconditional ability that works whether or not the Case is solved yet, such as an ETB effect or an ongoing trigger.
- The "to solve" condition and the "Solved —" ability are two different parts of the card. Meeting the condition doesn't add new text, it unlocks the text already printed after "Solved —".
