Tap
Keywords · beginner
To tap a permanent means to turn it sideways to show it has been used. The tap symbol is shown as {T}.
How it works
- Many costs require tapping a permanent. Attacking taps a creature (unless it has vigilance). Producing mana from a land usually taps it.
- A tapped permanent stays tapped until something untaps it, normally during its controller's untap step.
Rules notes
- A tapped creature cannot attack and cannot be declared as a blocker.
- Tapping a permanent for a cost requires it to be untapped; you cannot tap something already tapped to pay a {T} cost.
- Tapping by itself does not stop a permanent's other abilities unless an effect says so.
