Tempting Offer
Keywords · intermediate
Tempting offer is an ability word. It has no rules meaning of its own; it marks cards that offer each opponent a chance to copy the caster's effect, with a bigger reward for the caster the more opponents take the deal.
How it works
- The spell does its base effect for you, then each opponent may do the same thing themselves.
- For each opponent who takes the offer, you get an extra copy of the effect: an extra token copy, an extra reanimation, an extra +1/+1 counter pass, an extra land search, or an extra spell copy, depending on the card.
- Because it's an ability word, the specifics live entirely in each card's printed text; some let opponents copy a creature or copy a spell, others let them return a creature from the graveyard or search for a land.
Rules notes
- Opponents are never forced to accept; each one independently chooses "may." A table that all declines still resolves your base effect once.
- The bonus scales only with how many opponents accept, so tempting offer is most rewarding at a full multiplayer table where several opponents are tempted to take the free effect.
- Because it's an ability word and not a keyword, there's no shared timing rule to look up; read the specific card for exactly what "taking the offer" grants each opponent.
