Void
Keywords · intermediate
Void is an ability word. It has no rules meaning of its own (CR 207.2c) — every void ability checks the same compound condition: whether a nonland permanent left the battlefield this turn, or a spell was warped this turn.
How it works
- The shared condition is "if a nonland permanent left the battlefield this turn or a spell was warped this turn" — either half being true is enough.
- The "nonland permanent left the battlefield" half isn't restricted to permanents you controlled — any nonland permanent leaving, on either side of the board, satisfies it.
- Most void abilities check the condition at the beginning of your end step: sacrificing an Aura unless it's met, creating a token if it is, or attaching an Equipment to a creature you control if it is.
- One void ability checks the condition as part of an attack trigger, and one checks it as part of an instant or sorcery's own resolution.
Rules notes
- Because the condition includes "or a spell was warped this turn," a turn with no permanents leaving the battlefield can still satisfy void if a spell was warped.
- This family includes both shapes: abilities that reward you when the condition is true (a token, extra damage) and one that penalizes you unless it's true (sacrifice this Aura).
- The condition checks the whole turn up to that point, not just the action immediately before the trigger.
