Web-slinging

Keywords · intermediate

Web-slinging is an alternative cost that lets you cast a spell cheaply by also returning a tapped creature you control to its owner's hand.

How it works

• Web-slinging [cost] means you may cast the spell by paying that cost and returning a tapped creature you control to its owner's hand, instead of paying the mana cost.
• The creature you return must already be tapped; web-slinging doesn't tap it for you.
• Some cards check whether they were cast using web-slinging and grant an extra effect if so.

Rules notes

• Casting for the web-slinging cost follows the normal rules for alternative costs, so cast triggers still fire.
• Returning the tapped creature is part of paying the cost, so it happens as you cast the spell, at the same time as paying the reduced mana cost.
